Mother, toddler found shot at Texas City apartment complex, police say

TEXAS CITY, Texas – An investigation is ongoing after police in Texas City said a mother and her toddler were found shot at a Texas City apartment complex early Saturday.

It happened at Tradewinds Apartments located in the 1900 block of 13th Street at around 1 a.m.

Family members identified the victims as 23-year-old Taylor Kendrick and her three-year-old daughter Ty’Mya.

“I want whoever did this found, and I want them to pay for it,” said Taylor’s mother, Sheronica Wright-Evans.

Texas City officers say they arrived and found Kendrick outside of her apartment with a gunshot wound to the thigh, according to Texas City PD.

Police said Kendrick asked officers to check on her daughter who was inside the apartment. That was when the baby was found in her bed with multiple gunshot wounds.

“She’s an innocent child, she did not deserve this,” Wright-Evans said. “She got a long road ahead of her because of a decision someone made.”

Both the mother and her daughter were transported to UTMB Galveston. The toddler was listed in serious condition, while her mother was listed in stable condition.

It is unknown what led to the shooting and police say they are still looking for the suspect.

Taylor’s family has created a GoFundMe account to help cover her and her family’s medical expenses.

A reward of $1,000 is offered by the Mainland Communities Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest in this case.
