Woman with child in car leads police on chase in Midtown; arrested for DWI, police say

HOUSTON – A woman is in custody after leading Houston police officers on a chase Wednesday while a child was in the backseat, authorities said.

It happened around 11:20 p.m. on Blodgett and San Jacinto.

According to police, a Houston Police Department patrol vehicle was traveling inbound on Katy Freeway near Taylor when a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed nearly struck him.

Police said the officer attempted to stop the suspect when a pursuit ensued.

Other officers assisted in chasing the car down and were able to stop the vehicle off Fannin and 59, investigators said. Police said a female driver eventually surrendered to officers.

A 4-year-old boy was located in the back seat of the vehicle, investigators said.

Police said the woman is was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and felony evasion.

The boy has reportedly been transferred to the custody of a family member.
