Crash involving HPD officer on West Loop, police say

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after an officer was injured in a crash on the West Loop Friday.

It happened northbound on 610 at 59 around 1:40 a.m.

According to officers, a vehicle was blocking a moving lane of traffic. HPD unit pulled up behind the vehicle and put its lights on. Police said a 17-year-old in a Honda Acura HDX came over the overpass and ran into the back of the patrol unit.

The officer was transported to Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, HPD said.

Police said the driver was evaluated and showed no signs of intoxication. The driver was only issued a citation.
