Property owner fatally shoots intruder at vacant apartment on Houston’s East End, HPD says

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead at an apartment on Houston’s East End Tuesday.

Officers received a call about a home invasion in the 7400 block of Canal around 7:45 p.m.

According to investigators, a call was made by the wife of a property owner who said her husband found an intruder inside of one of their vacant apartments. Police said the man had been receiving reports from tenants about break-ins and decided to investigate the issue.

The property owner, who owns several units in the area, told officers he found the stranger in the apartment and called the police. The man said he was approached by the intruder with a weapon and shot him out of fear.

Police are working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the property owner will face charges.
