1. Homeowner shoots, kills intruder in southwest Houston, police say

Houston police are investigating after they said a homeowner shot and killed an intruder in southwest Houston Thursday.
It happened in the 2200 block of Naomi Street around 1 a.m.
Police said when they arrived at the scene, they located a man who had been fatally shot.
According to investigators, a homeowner was asleep on the second floor when he heard the back door’s glass break. The intruder then entered the home and made his way upstairs into the homeowner’s bedroom, police said.
The homeowner, seeing the intruder, discharged his weapon and shot the intruder in the neck. The intruder then ran, officers said.
2. 3rd suspect captured, charged in deadly 2019 shooting of man in southeast Houston, HPD says
Three men have been arrested and charged in connection to the 2019 deadly shooting of a man in southeast Houston.
Daniel Cisneros Leyva, 22, was charged with capital murder and 20-year-old Cristofer Ernesto Perez and 20-year-old Juan Castillo were charged with murder. All three men are accused of killing 21-year-old Edward Guerrero.
On Feb. 18, 2019, Houston police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of Redford Street at 8:15 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found Guerrero shot to death in the apartment’s parking lot.
Investigators said a witness spotted Guerrero and another man shooting at one another while a third man, who was also armed with a pistol, fled the scene on foot.
3. 50 people charged in multi-agency drug bust in Houston, Galveston area
A total of 50 people were arrested following one of the largest drug busts in south Texas in recent years, according to Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery and Special Agent in Charge Daniel C. Comeaux of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The suspects were allegedly involved in drug trafficking and other related activities in the Houston and Galveston areas.
Those arrested in the Houston area are expected to make appearances before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christina A. Bryan starting at 2 p.m. today.
According to the charges, the crimes happened between Dec. 10, 2020, and Dec. 15, 2021.
4. Harris County Elections releases unofficial results from March 1 Primary Election Thursday

12:30 A.M.: Harris County’s unofficial elections results were released early Thursday.
Over 340,000 ballots were cast, with nearly 14% of eligible registered voters casting ballots, the Office of Harris County Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria said.
The semi-official results officially came in close to midnight, which was hours after Harris County Republican Party Chairman Cindy Siegel filed a petition at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday requesting that the judge supervise the process of counting ballots in addition to wanting elections records to be impounded. The judge decided not to impound the election records and the process of counting the ballots resumed.
5. Houston Dynamo FC sign Mexican National Team captain Héctor Herrera
Houston Dynamo FC have announced the signing of Héctor Herrera, the Mexican National Team captain, to a pre-contract through the 2024 season with an option for 2025.
Herrera, 31, is currently under contract with defending La Liga champions Atlético de Madrid and will join the Dynamo this summer after his Atlético de Madrid contract concludes, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa.
Herrera is considered one of the more decorated Mexican players to ever play professionally in Europe. The midfielder has 93 caps with Mexico and won the Golden Ball as the best player at the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He represented Mexico at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cup and helped win a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. More recently, Herrera helped Mexico reach the finals of the 2021 CONCACAF Nations League and 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
