Passenger killed during drive-by shooting along North Sam Houston Tollway, police say

HOUSTON – A man sitting in the passenger side of his girlfriend’s vehicle was killed during a drive-by shooting Monday in north Houston.

The shooting was reported about 12:55 p.m. on the westbound side of the North Sam Houston Tollway near Ella Boulevard.

Police said 21-year-old Carl Somerville was the passenger of his girlfriend’s Mitsubishi Outlander when someone in a white Chevrolet Cruze fired several shots into the Mitsubishi, hitting Somerville several times. Police said the driver of the Chevrolet sped off in an unknown direction.

Somerville was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No arrests have been made.
