Family whose beloved pony was killed finds horse's sister

HULL, Texas – A Liberty County family whose pet pony was shot and killed last week has found the mini-horse’s sister.

For eight years, Chicken Nugget was treated as a member of the Brett family. The 25-inch-tall, 80-pound pony was 5-year-old Rylee Brett's best friend, said Kylee Brett, her mother.

“He would just hang out with us,” Kylee Brett said. “I’m serious. He would just lay down and watch TV.”

Authorities said that sometime early Wednesday, Chicken Nugget was shot in the head at close range at the family’s ranch in Hull.

Since then, people from the community and across the country have come together not only to help find the person responsible, but also help the Brett family find a new equine member.

Enter, Aliee – a 3-year-old miniature horse that is one of Chicken Nugget’s siblings.

“According to Rylee, Chicken Nugget made a phone call from heaven and was able to contact her,” Kylee Brett said. “Pretty much the one phone call system up there, I guess, and he was able to direct her in our path.”

Although Aliee, who the family said will be renamed Chicken Wings, can never replace Chicken Nugget, they wanted to do something for Rylee.

“As bad as this is, the people have been able to dry our tears just a little bit, knowing so many people care about us,” Kylee Brett said.

The search continues for the person who killed Chicken Nugget. Anyone with information about the case should contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500.
