Crazy video: 18-wheeler drives out of control on Highway 290

HOUSTON – A cellphone video captured an 18-wheeler driving out of control Wednesday night on Highway 290 northbound near 34th Street.

The roads on Highway 290 are tricky enough for drivers with ongoing construction, but add an 18-wheeler to the mix and it becomes a nightmare.

“I noticed an 18-wheeler was in the cones,” said Herman Hu, who recorded the erratic driving on his phone. “He was running into the cones and he ran over a flashing arrow sign.”

Herman Hu was heading home from work Wednesday around 1:30 a.m, when he started recording the Link America semi-truck. In the video, the tractor-trailer drifted across the lanes of the highway.

The condition of the driver is unknown or what caused the driver to lose control of the truck.

Hu said the odd driving behavior continued for a half-mile ending around 43rd Street after the 18-wheeler crashed into a sound barrier.

The concrete barrier damaged a metal fence in Ricky Browne’s yard. Browne said Texas Department of Transportation told him they would repair the damage.

“I saw 2 gentlemen out here looking at it the next morning and they said that they did fix it,” Browne said. “I don’t know when and I’m not going to hold my breathe.”

KPRC reached out to Arnold Trucking, which owns Link America, but was told they were unavailable for comment Sunday.
