Convicted Houston killer arrested at border while attempting to enter US, officials say

EL PASO, Texas – A convicted killer was arrested at the U.S./Mexico border last week.

Authorities said 41-year-old Alberto Antonio Coreas Mejia, of El Salvador, was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and served four years in prison. He was removed from the country in October 2017 after authorities said he was arrested for resisting arrest and attempted burglary in 2013.

Agents working a video surveillance system at the El Paso Station saw three people illegally enter the country through the Rio Grande, just south of the Asarco area, according to authorities.

All three people were found lying flat, attempting to hide near the canal wall that is north of Paisano. The three were arrested and taken to the Paso Del Norte Texas Processing Center.

Coreas' history came up while agents were running background checks on the people.

He was taken to the El Paso County Jail.
