Horrific deadly crash cleared from 610 South Loop

One left dead and another critically injured in an accident that left South Loop 610 shut down for a while.

HOUSTON – Two men are dead after a crash on the 610 South Loop near Cullen that began as a minor fender bender turned fatal when a third car came crashing into the two men standing near the accident on the highway.

Their vehicles, a silver Toyota Corolla and white Nissan Frontier, were both stopped in the moving lanes of traffic and both victims exited their vehicles, according to the police report.  The driver of a white Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck was also traveling westbound on the South Loop and was following a vehicle in the flow of traffic, but was not able to see ahead.

The driver of the Chevrolet then struck the victims and then their vehicles.  Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Houston police say officers received a call around 9:15 a.m. that a body was on the road that looked decapitated.

The lanes were closed for hours before reopening.

All westbound lanes on the 610 South Loop are now closed, snarling traffic in the area.
