Driver sought after woman killed in hit-and-run crash

SANTA FE, Texas – Police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run after a woman was left for dead Saturday night, according to the Santa Fe Police Department.

That victim was identified as 55-year old Yolanda Herrera.  Her sons, Sergio Rojas and Jose Herrera said their mom was a loving and caring person.

"She always has love for everybody. She had her rights and wrongs just like everybody does and I just hope she's in a better place right now," Rojas said.

Herrera was found lying in the outside lane of the eastbound travel lanes in the 16700 block of State Highway 6 near Webb Road.

Rojas said he got the news a short time later.

“It just broke me down bro, it broke me down,” Rojas said.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced Herrera dead at the scene.

Later during the investigation, investigators were able to identify a possible suspect vehicle. The vehicle involved may be a newer model, white Ford sedan.

Jose Herrera had a message for that driver.

“Come forward and admit to what you did because you could of prevented her death," Herrera said. "Maybe if that person would not of been a coward and stopped and rendered aid, she might of been hurt but she could of got help."

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call the Santa Fe Police Department at 409-925-2000 or Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-736-8477.
