Body found floating in Buffalo Bayou near Mason Park, police say

HOUSTON – Authorities are investigating after a woman’s body was found in Buffalo Bayou.

Police had initially said it was a man's body but later said the body belonged to a woman.

According to police, a person spotted the body floating in Brays Bayou around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

String currents carried the body to Buffalo Bayou, and officers had to call the fire department because they could not reach it, police said.

Firefighters were able to get the body out of the water. An investigation is now underway to determine how the woman died and ended up in the bayou.

Police said they do not know how long the body had been in the water.

The woman's identity has not yet been released.
