Man drowns trying to swim to inflatable trampoline in Manvel, police say

MANVEL, Texas – A 24-year-old man drowned in a lake in Manvel on Thursday, according to police.

Around 4 p.m., officials said Timothy Beatty attempted to swim to an inflatable trampoline at Twin Lakes RV Resort but didn't make it.

The Houston Police Department dive team responded to the scene off of Highway 6 to help with recovery.

SKY 2 flew over the scene and saw first responders at the lake as they worked to recover Beatty's body.

Officials said his body was found around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Detective Anthony Meschell said somewhere along the 50-yard swim, Beatty went under and didn't come back up.

Officials said Beatty's friends tried to help him when they saw him getting tired and starting to struggle.

It was a difficult afternoon for everyone at the park.

"It's just really a sad day for everybody," Wesley Roberson said.

Roberson said when he heard people yelling, he quickly realized the severity of the situation going on outside his RV.

"I looked out and asked everyone what was going on, and they said that somebody drowned," he said.

Authorities said the water is as deep as 50 feet in some areas.
