Father accused of intoxicated driving while picking daughter up from day care

HOUSTON – A man accused of driving while intoxicated was arrested while trying to pick his daughter up from day care in Friendswood, police said.

Ariel Alexio Aleman, 32, has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

A witness reported a reckless driver around 6 p.m. near the intersection of South Friendswood Drive and Whispering Pines Avenue. The witness told police the driver, identified as Aleman, had struck a motorist and hit a curb while driving to a day care, officials said.

A Friendswood police officer spotted the reported vehicle in the parking lot of a day care center, but Aleman was not there. He was but inside the day care, picking up his daughter, officials said. The officer made contact with Aleman, who showed signs of intoxication, and the officer took him into custody, police said.

The child was released to her mother, police said.

A cocktail was found in a Styrofoam cup inside Aleman's vehicle, officials said. At the police station, Aleman failed a field sobriety test, officials said.
