Residents who live in the area said they were worried about property values and the slaughterhouse’s proximity to E.A. Lawhon Elementary School, which is about a quarter of a mile away.

The permit was scheduled for review during Monday’s zoning meeting, but city officials said the applicant asked for the plans to be put on hold.

The owner of the property said he is not sure if he will pursue opening the slaughterhouse at a later time.
