Man shot during attempted car robbery in west Houston, police say

HOUSTON – A man is in the hospital after he was shot by would-be robbers in west Houston, police said.

According to authorities, a 24-year-old resident of the Chestnut Hill apartments near Bellerive Drive and Fondren Road heard a noise in the parking lot.

When the man looked out the window he saw a man attempting to break into his car, so he ran outside and confronted him, police said.

The alleged robber ran down the parking lot and got into a white Honda sedan that was waiting nearby, at which point someone in the car pointed a gun at the resident and shot twice, hitting him once in the hip, police said.

Both the would-be robber and the driver fled the scene and remain at large, according to authorities.

The victim is in surgery and is expected to survive.
