Woman found dead at apartment in NW Houston, police say

HOUSTON – A woman was found dead Tuesday at an apartment complex in northwest Houston, according to Houston police.

The 34-year-old woman was found during a welfare check at the Linda Vista apartment complex in the 5500 block of De Soto Street around 7:30 p.m.

It is not clear what caused the woman's death, but homicide detectives are investigating.

Family and friends of Cassie Washington asked for police to check her apartment after they hadn’t heard from her in three days.

“Officers made entry into the apartment,” Lt. Larry Crowson, of the Houston Police Department, said. “And the apartment seemed to be in a little bit of disarray.”

Family and friends at the crime scene said Washington grew up in Tomball.

She recently worked at Dollar General, family members said.

“We do want to find out what happened so that person who did what they did can get justice,” said Koleta Maness, Washington’s godmother.

“My whole life, we grew up together, and now I can’t believe that she’s gone,” her cousin Shanetta Bennett said.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
