Stredic and Barriere had been friends, the Harris County DA's Office said. The deadly encounter happened when the two drove to the gas station with two other men.

An argument between Stredic and others in the vehicle led Stredic to retrieve a shotgun from the trunk of his vehicle and shot Barriere in the side of the head, officials said.

A second person was shot in the face and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. A bystander was also hit in the leg by one of the bullets, police said at the time.
