Why Houston radio hosts had heated argument on Radio Row at Super Bowl LII

HOUSTON – It was an interesting Wednesday on Radio Row inside the Mall of America at Super Bowl 52 in Minneapolis.

While the usual array of headline-grabbing guests made their way through interviews, including Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, the highlight of the day, at least based on social media, was centered around a verbal altercation between hosts of two Houston radio stations.

SportsRadio 610, home of the Texans, and SportsTalk 790, home of the Astros and Rockets, both sent numerous crews to host their respective shows on Radio Row this week, including their respective morning shows.

The hosts of those morning shows were so incensed with one another they were screaming at one another while on air of their respective programs.

SportsRadio 610’s MAD Radio, former Texan Seth Payne and Mike Meltser, got into a loud shouting match on the air with SportsTalk 790 morning host, Josh Innes, host of the Josh Innes show.

With so many stations set up to broadcast in close proximity to one another, several neighboring stations were able to catch the spat in the videos posted here. It was more spectacle than substance, and there was no physical contact amidst the hubbub.

Another radio show caught the argument on video. See the tweet below.

It is not uncommon for hosts of competing radio stations to harbor disdain for one another and it appears in this instance, much of this spat had been relegated to social media barbs prior to Wednesday.
