SPRING, Texas – The "Today Show" on Tuesday surprised families in Spring impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
“It felt like Christmas. The best Christmas ever. I'm gonna have a new house,” one woman said.
It was Christmas even before Thanksgiving for families recovering from the hurricane.
“We didn’t know what to think, so it’s bigger than we imagined,” Robin, who is from Beaumont, said.
Al Roker, the "Today Show" and Lowe’s surprised them all.
“Harvey was a beast, over 51 inches of rain, at least 82 people killed, 800 homes destroyed at least. You just hadn't seen anything like that in a long, long time,” Roker said.
Lowe’s set up a small store in the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church, and families loaded up their carts.
“It encourages you to let you know that there’s people that care, and to keep going,” Robin said.
“It brightens your day. It brightens your week. It gives you hope. It really helps out. Thank you,” another woman said.
The "Today Show" will make stops in San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. John and Key West to help with recovery efforts.
In case you missed it this morning on the Today Show, here’s the big reveal from Al Roker’s #LendAHand campaign for Texans affected by Harvey. Such as awesome morning for everyone involved!
