The Houston SPCA said in a release that the facility was a self-described “rescue” and that many of the dogs were crammed in small rooms and stacked in small, unsanitary cages, while others roamed freely inside the home where urine soaked the floors and feces was smeared on the walls.

Many of the animals have medical conditions such as skin issues and hair loss, upper respiratory infections and masses and tumor, according to the Houston SPCA.

The owner was given notice on an initial inspection, but when conditions didn’t improve, the Houston SPCA said a warrant was issued to seize the animals and take them to a shelter.

The case will be heard by a court in Liberty County. The Houston SPCA said it hopes the animals will be turned over to their organization and can fully recover and be placed in new homes.
