TEXAS CITY, Texas – A man is dead after a shooter approached a vehicle and opened fire, the Texas City Police Department said.
Police received several 911 calls Thursday about gunshots in the 1200 block of Appomattox Drive.

Police said officers discovered that a man, identified by police as Anthony Sonnier, 29, had been shot several times while he sat in the passenger seat of a vehicle parked in a driveway.
An initial investigation revealed someone approached the vehicle, occupied by Sonnier and two other people, and opened fire, police said. It is unknown what provoked the shooter or what his motive was.
Police said Sonnier was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses and processing the scene.
