Blue Buffalo recalls dog food after concerns about beef thyroid hormones in food

HOUSTON – The Blue Buffalo Co. has voluntarily recalled one of its dog foods after ingredients containing beef thyroid hormone raised concerns, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The company said prolonged consumption of the BLUE Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Red Meat Dinner wet food for adult dogs could lead to increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness.

Severe symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea and rapid or difficulty breathing, the company said.

The FDA said the investigation began after a consumer reported symptoms in a dog, which has fully recovered.

The company said no other Blue Buffalo products are affected.

The FDA advised consumers who have purchased the product to dispose it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
