Police identify young soldier found dead in burning SUV

LA MARQUE, Texas – Officials have identified a man's body that was found in a burning vehicle on Feb 17.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 6:45 a.m. in the 5600 block of Mitchell Lane near the Gulf Greyhound Park, police said.

Officers found Brandon Lancelin, 31, inside the burning 2001 Ford Expedition. Investigators said the identification numbers had been removed from the SUV. Police were later able to confirm the license plate of the vehicle to be 45KCF9.

His body had been so badly burned that officials were not immediately able to identify Lancelin. Confirmation of his identity was obtained through dental records, police said.

According to investigators, Lancelin was dead before the fire. The manner of death is unclear.

His family held his funeral Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the La Marque Criminal Investigation Division at 409-938-9269 or Crime Stoppers at 409-838-8477.
