Officers found Brandon Lancelin, 31, inside the burning 2001 Ford Expedition. Investigators said the identification numbers had been removed from the SUV. Police were later able to confirm the license plate of the vehicle to be 45KCF9.

His body had been so badly burned that officials were not immediately able to identify Lancelin. Confirmation of his identity was obtained through dental records, police said.

According to investigators, Lancelin was dead before the fire. The manner of death is unclear.

His family held his funeral Thursday.
