Good Samaritan stops man from assaulting woman in La Porte, police say

LA PORTE, Texas – A man was arrested Wednesday after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend at a La Porte business, police said.

The fight was reported at 7 p.m. at a businesses in the 400 block of La Porte's West Fairmont Parkway.

La Porte police said Michael Waddy, 31, assaulted his girlfriend and then turned on a good Samaritan who stepped in to help.

Police said Waddy fled from the scene, but was quickly apprehended nearby during a traffic stop.

Investigators said that the car Waddy was driving was stolen from Angleton, Texas.

Waddy was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and striking the good Samaritan, according to officials. 

He is also facing charges in connection with the stolen vehicle that he was driving at the time he committed the other offenses, police said.

Waddy is being held in the Harris County Jail.
