Man charged in slaying of man in southwest Houston driveway

HOUSTON – Police said Thursday they arrested the man accused of killing another man in the driveway of a southwest Houston home.

The shooting was reported about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection Wuthering Heights and Townwood drives.

According to Houston police, Leandrew Hicks, 26, arrived at the home and talked to the victim, identified as Dimarcues Ballard, 27. They said Hicks pulled out a gun, shot Ballard and fled in a dark green car.

Investigators at the scene said Ballard’s uncle was in the car with Hicks at the time of the shooting. They said he got out of the car Hicks was driving after the shooting and tried to help his nephew.

Ballard died at the scene.

Hicks was later found in the 1400 block of Fondren Road and arrested.

Hicks was charged with murder.

A motive was not immediately released.
