14-year-old reports sexual advance by stranger in Oak Ridge North

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – The incident happened last Thursday, but Conroe Independent School District emailed parents about it on Monday, letting them know police have stepped up patrols in the area.

The teen and her mother are speaking out to warn others.

"I take the bridge and I go all the way straight down," the teen said.

The Oak Ridge High School freshman was doing what she does every day after school.

"I was going to my grandma's house," she said.

It's less than a mile away, and usually her brother is with her, but not on this day, because he had practice.

The girl was alone when a strange man in a truck stopped to talk to her.

"He said he was looking for his dog and he sounded really worried, so he asked me if I'd seen it and I said, 'No,' but then he kept repeating the question. I just was like, 'There's something not right,' and then he started describing it and it wasn't his dog."

The 14-year-old says the man was describing his genitals.

"I started walking away and then he offered me money to do stuff to him. I was really freaked out. It's creepy," she said.

She said he offered her $100 to perform a sex act.

The teen told police it was a Hispanic man in his 40s who was driving a brown, tan or gold older model Chevy four door or extended cab truck with running boards.

She said there were construction materials in the truck's bed.

Surveillance photos show the truck had writing on the tailgate, but it's not clear what it says.

The girl said she kept walking and the man drove away.

"It always happens to someone else, you never expect it to happen to yours," the girl's mother said.

The teen's mother wrote about the incident on a neighborhood Facebook page as a warning to others.

"I'm just afraid there might be someone else walking home because they think the neighborhood is safe and might not be as mindful and might fall for it. She had her softball bat with her and I told her next time use it," the mother said.

The family said Oak Ridge North police have recovered surveillance images showing their daughter and the truck that man was driving and they feel confident he will be identified and captured soon.

If anyone recognizes the vehicle or the man described, they are asked to contact the Oak Ridge North Police Department.
