SUGAR LAND, Texas – The spotlight is on Sugar Land Saturday night where the area's new big concert and performing arts venue is holding its grand opening.
The Smart Financial Centre even has comedian Jerry Seinfeld hitting the stage.
The venue is on Lexington near University and the southwest freeway.
"I bought a lot of tickets to everything and my husband has said he's going to put me on a ticket budget,” Carol McCutcheon, a venue guest, said.
Mayor Joe Zimmerman hopes it will be an economic boom for Sugar Land.
"The economic impact will not only be hotel rooms, but it will be restaurants. It could also be some of the bars we have in Sugar Land Town Square ," Zimmerman said.
Residents said the venue is a convenience.
“It's in Sugar Land. It keeps us from going all the way up to the Woodlands," Bonnie Hypes said.
"It seems like they're bringing all different types of concerts here so we just have to drive down the street versus driving all the way into the city. We have it in our backyard. I think it's awesome," Linda Kirk said.
