Train partially derails off bridge near Old Katy Road in northwest Houston

Houston police are responding to a train derailment near Old Katy Road and Hempstead Road in northwest Houston Friday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, the call first came in around 8:55 a.m. as a crash involving only the train. Officials said part of the train is hanging off a bridge in the area.

No injuries were initially reported on the call slip, though officials are still working to confirm that information with the Houston Fire Department.

Union Pacific was notified of the derailment but says it is not involved. The company involved is Canadian Pacific Kansas City.

Drivers should expect road closures in the area. Police said Old Katy Road is blocked in both directions near Hempstead Road. Additional closures near Hempstead at Washington Avenue are possible, though they have not yet been confirmed.
