Sugar Land opens doors of Smart Financial Centre for behind-the-scenes peek

HOUSTON – You’ll have to wait until Jan. 14 for opening night with Jerry Seinfeld at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land.

But tonight, KPRC is taking you inside for an exclusive tour.  “When we are doing 'Dirty Dancing', when we are doing Billy Crystal, it'll be this intimate-feeling 3,000-seat setup,” Gary Becker, president of ACE SL, said.

Moveable walls are incorporated in the design of the venue to expand the seating capacity to 6,400.  A key attraction 14 suites that boast the best seats in the house.

The center is not just a place where you can catch Sting, Dave Matthews, Don Henley and Reba McEntire in concert. You’ll also be able to see comedy legends like Steve Martin, Martin Short and Chris Rock take the stage, along with off Broadway shows like "Dirty Dancing." 

The 200,000-square-foot venue will also showcase a wide variety of programs, productions and community events. “We'll do commencements for Fort Bend County Independent School District.

We'll do a lot of cultural shows because the city is so culturally diverse, Becker said.

It’s expected to be a real game-changer for the community, and the benefits include an economic impact of more than $20 million over the next three decades.

“It’s really something unique that the city of Houston, the city of Sugar Land, this region has never seen before,” Randy Bloom, general manager of Smart Financial Centre, said.
