Mirrors missing in Rosenberg, police issue warning to owners

ROSENBERG, Texas – Side or wing mirrors serve a very important purpose.

They help us see the areas behind and to the side of our vehicle outside of the blind spots.

Rosenberg police say at least three SUV owners who parked their vehicles at the Brazos Town Center shopping complex this past weekend, are now driving around without theirs.

Someone’s been going around stealing them.

Police said they are baffled, that’s why they issued an alert.

They say they have never seen anything like this before. The thieves aren’t stealing the plastic case covering the mirror. They are only stealing the mirror itself.

Right now, they don’t have any surveillance video from any of the stores in the shopping center that’s good enough to help them track down the crooks.

Two thefts were reported in the north lot. A third in the south lot.

On Sunday, a woman parked her 2005 Chevy Tahoe near Dress Barn and went shopping. When she came out of the store around 2:30 p.m., she noticed one of the side mirrors had been popped and was missing.

“I thought maybe they had fallen off. I know that sounds odd. I just thought, it was the passenger’s side and when I realized it was both I really couldn't believe that someone would steal my mirrors. It just seemed so random,” the woman said.

She called the dealership yesterday and was told it would cost her nearly $1,100 to replace them.

In the meantime, she’s trying to drive as little as possible.

“I don't want to put myself or other drivers in a situation where I'm  at risk and I'm a danger to them too,” the woman said.

Thieves also targeted a Cadillac Escalade. The third SUV was a GMC Yukon.

Rosenberg police are encouraging any more victims to come forward. They can call 832-595-3700.
