Homeowners awaken to find man standing in bedroom, authorities say
SPRING, Texas – A man was arrested Monday morning after homeowners awakened Sunday morning to find him standing in their bedroom, authorities said.
The break-in was reported about 4:15 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 3100 block of Legends Creek Drive, near the intersection of Birnham Woods and Legends Run drives.
Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3 Chief Deputy Matt Rodrigue said that the man grabbed his girlfriend's leg while she was asleep in the home at the time.
"She thought it was the cat," Rodrigue said. He said his girlfriend hit at her leg and realized is was a human, assuming it was her son. She said she realized it wasn't her son.
That's when Rodigue awoke and chased the man down the street. The man was able to escape.
"That's the scary part, we don't know how long he was in here," he said.
Investigators said security cameras at the home recorded the man breaking into the house.
Rodrigue said authorities received another call Monday morning about a prowler in the same neighborhood. Deputy constables responded and arrested the man.
Rodrigue said investigators believe that the man is the one responsible for the Sunday morning burglary.
"It's kind of sickening, and makes me want to get out and know more of my neighbors instead (of) four or five I (already) know now," he said.
Lonnie Jones, 33, was identified as the suspect. He was charged with burglary of a habitation.
Rodrigue said Jones was out jail on bond in a child indecency case at the time of the burglary.
