Double-digit drop in rental rates for Houston apartments

HOUSTON – It's bad news for apartment owners but good news for renters.

The Zumper's Report found that the average apartment rent in Houston fell 12 percent. In fact, Houston had one of the largest rent declines in the country.

The decline — happening amid the oil slump — is forcing apartment owners to offer discounts and rent concessions to keep occupancy rates up.
