Jackknifed big rig barrels through concrete barrier on I-10 near downtown

HOUSTON – I-10 east at I-45 was closed for hours Thursday near downtown after a crash involving an 18-wheeler.

It happened around 1:10 a.m. when the driver of the big rig lost control on the wet freeway, jackknifed and hit a retaining wall. The truck, which was carrying clothes and merchandise, went through the concrete barrier and slid onto the HOV lane blocking traffic onto the freeway.

Crews worked to clean spilled fuel, chunks of concrete and debris from the road.

The driver was treated at the scene for minor bumps and bruises. He was not taken to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.
