Two shootings reported on Cullen within hours

HOUSTON – Police reported two shootings on Cullen Boulevard, south of the University of Houston campus, on Sunday.

At one scene, 6830 Cullen Blvd., police had an entire mini mart parking lot taped off where a man in his 30s was reported dead.

Investigators said, the victim was in front of the AM Mini Mart when a black car pulled up and someone inside opened fire. The vehicle is described only as a black sports car with rims.

Shortly after the first shooting, a man and woman were both in critical condition after another shooting on Cullen Boulevard.

“All of a sudden we hear gunshots, like 12 consecutive, like dat, dat, dat,” said Royal Beauty Supply owner Daniel Chang.

Cameras caught the chilling moments outside the Time Rise Mart at Bellfort St. at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

“The surveillance video shows a man coming out of a truck raising his gun, starts shooting. Everyone in panic. Everyone's running,” said Chang.

Police said the gunman used an assault rifle to shoot a man sitting in a silver car outside the gas station.

“The complainant was hit multiple times,” said Assistant Chief Troy Finner with the Houston Police Department.

They said he was hit at least once in the head.

On the other side of the parking lot of the Time Rise Mart, a woman also became a victim.

“She took cover when the suspect started shooting and the driver to that vehicle, possibly was fleeing the gunshots, ran over that female," Finner said.

The video showed the shooter walk back to the brown or tan 4-door pickup truck and take off.

“Anytime anyone picks up a gun in broad daylight or nighttime and shoots someone, it's a dangerous individual,” said Finner.

Paramedics took the man and the woman to the hospital.

Chang wanted the gunman caught.

“That's heartless, you know, no compassion for life. You're gonna come out and just shoot someone.? That's sad. Who would want to do that?" Chang said.

Police don't have a description of the gunman or the driver of the 4-door pickup truck.

Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
