HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A fight inside Westfield High School was captured on cellphone video and uploaded to the social media site Instagram. It quickly went viral.
People on Twitter were talking about it, too.
"Another day, another fight #Westfield," one person wrote.
The video shows three or four girls throwing punches, pulling hair and more.
"Something needs to be done," said Cora Mosley, whose daughter Angelica was part of the fight. "It's not right. This is two, three kids on my daughter and they stomping on her head. I know my daughter's not an angel, don't get me wrong. She's not perfect. but this isn't right."
Mosley is disappointed her daughter was involved in the fight but she said these types of disruptions and this kind of violence continue to happen day after day.
The students don't face real consequences, she alleges.
"If they have a fight, all they give them is one or two days suspension," Mosley said. "That's what they want, to miss school!"
Her daughter, Angelica Johnson, told Channel 2 News that she is scared at school and doesn't feel safe.
"No, not at all," she said.
Johnson said she doesn't even know what started the fight. She and the other girls in the video have had an ongoing feud that started years ago in middle school.
"She stood up and she hit me," she said. "Her sister and her friend jumped in."
On the video, you can see, Johnson was bleeding from the nose.
"They kicked me and dragged me up the little stairs."
Mosley spoke out about her concerns at Westfield High School because she wants something to be done. She would like to see stricter punishments for students who are violent and more police on campus.
Channel 2 News reached out to Spring ISD. District officials said in a statement, "The safety and security of our students is our highest priority. Disruptions to the school day will not be tolerated and there will always be strong disciplinary consequences for students involved in fighting. The campus has increased the presence of staff in the cafeteria, and will continue to work with students on developing good conflict management skills."
A spokesperson also said the fight on Thursday was brought under control by campus administrators and appropriate disciplinary action was taken.
