Feds arrest two accused in Houston pill mill operation

HOUSTON – Federal prosecutors say two Houston men illegally distributed 1.6 million doses of the pain relievers oxycodone and hydrocodone over a three-year period. They are both facing federal charges.

Dr. Richard A. Evans, 70, and David Devido, 76, were indicted and surrendered to authorities on Monday.

Evans is accused of writing the prescriptions for patients at his Galleria-area office and sending them to see Devido at Briargrove Pharmacy to have the prescriptions filled.
According to the pharmacist who works there, Devido used to own the business but sold it two years ago and hasn't been around in a while.
It's currently under new ownership, she told Local 2.

Investigators said refills on these prescriptions are not permitted but Evans would offer patients two refills if they agreed to pay $200 to $240 dollars.

Devido and his staff would then fill them and even send pills to patients out of state.

If convicted, both men could be facing 20 years in prison.
