HOUSTON – An Amber Alert was cancelled for a 14-month-old boy reported missing after his mother was found shot to death Tuesday morning. The boy was found safe in Arkansas after his father was cornered by police there Tuesday, and committed suicide.
Tyemetheus Pack's mother, Angel Jackson, was last seen on Wednesday. Neighbors heard her arguing with the boy's father, Tumetheus Levastavian Pack, 42, at their apartment in the 5900 block of Pinemont Christmas day. Jackson didn't show up for work the next day.
Jackson's sister, Daviana Standokes, says the relationship was rocky.
"She was unhappy. She was planning to leave him. It was just a matter of time." Standoakes said.
On Sunday, a co-worker at the Dollar Tree store Jackson managed received a text message from Jackson's phone saying she'd been shot. Police were alerted and conducted a welfare check, but say the text message gave the wrong address.
Jackson's sister believes Pack actually sent it.
"We don't think that was her who texted because he had her phone, so we're thinking it was him who sent that text." she said.
Monday night, another co-worker went by Jackson's apartment to check on her and became concerned.
"The door was locked. The vehicle was here. He was concerned. He called for another welfare check and gave the right address," said Houston Homicide Division detective P. Vela.
Jackson's body was found in a bedroom. She had been shot in the head.
"She just didn't deserve to go that way," Standokes said. "Didn't deserve it."
An Amber Alert was issued for the missing infant, Tyemetheus Pack, who police believed was with his father.
Park drove the child to his home town, Prescott, Arkansas. Arkansas State Troopers went to Pack's home looking for him and learned he had switched the green Chevy suburban he was driving for a white Impala. They spotted the car and stopped it just outside of town.
Houston detectives say Pack shot himself rather than be taken. The 14-month-old was found in the car unharmed along with two other children and an unidentified woman.
The little boy is now with child welfare workers in Arkansas. His aunt says the family looking forward to making a home for him with family in Louisiana.
"He's going to be with us, he's going to remain with family, our family. He's going to be more than okay. I know we could never replace his mom, but we're sure as hell going to try," Standokes said.
Jackson had one other child, an 8-year-old son from a previous relationship, but police say that child was staying with his biological father when Jackson was killed.
