Guilty verdict for man accused of shooting Stafford Officer in the face

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A jury has found Daniel Cruz guilty of aggravated assault of a public servant. Cruz convicted in the shooting of Stafford police officer Ann Carrizales, who was shot in the face at point blank range.

The trial started Wednesday. Carrizales did take the stand. The jury will return Monday morning to begin the punishment phase of the trial. The offense is a first-degree felony punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

Cruz's two alleged accomplices, Freddy Henriquez and Sergio Rodriguez, are still awaiting trial.

It was around 3:38 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2013, when Carrizales stopped to question three suspicious men in a car, all members of a notorious Houston gang.
