Man arrested, charged after fatal shooting in Kingwood

HOUSTON – A local family now knows who police say killed their loved one outside an Humble home, but they are still searching for answers on why it happened.

Barrett Shirley's mother described him as clean-cut and hardworking father. She said no one in the family knows the accused gunman who was arrested two weeks after Shirley, 23, was shot.

Police said Hunter Ryan Hamilton Woods, 18, was arrested Friday without incident and charged with the Sept. 5th murder.

The shooting happened at 12:50 a.m. Sept. 5 in the 5400 block of Garden Village Drive in Humble.

Shirley was reportedly standing in front of a home in the 2400 block of Garden Village in Humble when he was shot. .He went inside the residence, where he collapsed and was pronounced dead.

The Houston Police Department said further investigation led to Woods as the shooter.

Shirley's family met with the lead prosecutor on the case Monday morning but there is still no word from police on a motive.
