Andrea Yates withdraws request for supervised hospital outings No description found
HOUSTON – Lawyers for the Clear Lake mother who killed her five children in 2001 have withdrawn their request to allow her to spend time outside of the state hospital where she is being treated.
Attorneys for Andrea Yates had been seeking approval for her to attend supervised group outings with other patients.
According to a source close to the case, her attorneys withdrew the request on Monday because her health history would have been public record through the court system.
Yates was sentenced to life in prison in 2002 after being convicted of capital murder for the bathtub drowning deaths of Noah, 7; John, 5; Paul, 3; Luke 2; and Mary, 6 months.
She was later granted a new trial and a jury found her innocent by reason of insanity in 2006, sentencing her to a mental hospital.
