Boy, 16, accidentally shot to death by teen friend

HOUSTON – A grand jury will have to decide if a teen will face charges after police say she accidentally shot and killed her friend.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, Houston police responded to reports of shots being fired in an apartment complex on Bellaire and Rampart.  When officers arrived, they found 16-year-old Edwin Rajo who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

"He always played around with guns like that," said Sandra Rajo, the victim's sister. "They were playing with the gun, they thought it wasn't loaded. They took the clip off, and he said, 'Okay, act like you are going to shoot me,' and when she shot [the gun], it actually had a bullet in it."

Police said the the victim was shot once in the chest with a .45-caliber pistol.

At first, police received a report that someone had shot the teen through the window, but family members said that was a story made up by the victim's 15-year-old  friend because she was scared she would get in trouble.

"She was scared that they were going to arrest her or something, so she told them that they shot from the window, but it was actually an accident," said Sandra.

At first rumors circulated that the shooting may have been foreshadowed on Facebook, but investigators said social media had nothing to do with it.
