Teen girl killed, man injured in southwest Houston shooting

HOUSTON – A teenage girl was killed Sunday and a man was injured in a southwest Houston shooting, police said.

On Monday afternoon, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the victim as Zuleyma Hernandez, 15.

Hernandez was a Wisdom High School Student.

The shooting was reported about 4:15 p.m. near Glenmont Drive and Westward Street.

Houston police said that officers arrived and found Hernandez dead and a 36-year-old man injured.

The man was taken to an area hospital, and is expected to survive, police said.

Investigators said three to five men were seen leaving the scene in a pickup.

"I saw four people, maybe 20s, run that away around the corner," a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous, said.

Channel 2 Investigates found that violent crime is not uncommon at the San Lucas Apartments at 6111 Glenmont.

The Houston Police Department has logged 207 calls for service in the last year.

Last February, another teenager, a boy, 15, was shot and killed and found in the apartment complex's laundry room.

The Houston Police Department has not yet publicly revealed a motive or identified suspects.
