Theatre Under The Stars reveals 2026-27 season with Broadway tours & local shows

HOUSTON – A blockbuster lineup for Houston Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is rolling out a season designed to please every theatre fan: The Music Man, Mrs. Doubtfire, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, The Who’s Tommy, Kinky Boots and Oh, Mary!

Artistic Director Dan Knechtges joined Houston Life for a sneak peek, promising “must-see” moments across touring hits and homegrown productions. Oh, Mary! — currently one of the hottest tickets in New York — will close the season.

A holiday show with local heart

TUTS will present Disney’s The Little Mermaid as its holiday production. The company is self-producing this title and plans to showcase students and local cast members, continuing TUTS’ tradition of pairing professional storytelling with Houston talent. While TUTS typically self-produces about half of each season, next year’s abundance of exceptional tours persuaded the artistic team to bring more Broadway productions to the city.

How TUTS curates and supports Houston artists

Selecting touring shows is an artistic and practical process: TUTS evaluates availability, artistic fit and what will resonate with local audiences. The season reflects a balance between crowd-pleasing classics, contemporary favorites and boundary-pushing works. Beyond touring hits, TUTS invests in development and local artists by including students and area performers in self-produced work and by offering performance and training opportunities throughout the year.
