Indian Film Festival of Houston celebrates France with film, food and culture

Houston – Houston Life back! After our brief hiatus during the Winter Olympics, we welcomed viewers back with a spotlight on a global celebration happening right here in the city, the 18th annual Indian Film Festival of Houston. Founder and Executive Director Sutapa Ghosh shared that the festival is launching a new tradition beginning in 2026, celebrating the cinema, cuisine, and music of a guest country alongside India. This year, France, recognized as the birthplace of cinema, is being honored with special programming that highlights French film, food, and culture.

The festival’s new tagline, “Collaborate, Create and Deliver,” reflects partnerships, including one with Producers Without Borders.

Attendees can expect acclaimed films, international storytelling, music performances, and a rich cultural experience beyond the screen.

French Chef David Denis, originally from the South of France, joined the show to preview the special luncheon he will headline as part of the celebration. He is the former owner of the beloved Houston restaurant Le Mistral, where he built a loyal following for his timeless cooking and attention to detail.

Today, Chef David is the owner of Bistro Mistral, where he brings his French heritage and years of experience to an elevated yet approachable bistro experience. With locations in Memorial and now Bellaire, Bistro Mistral celebrates traditional French techniques, seasonal ingredients, and dishes designed to bring people together around the table.

Today on Houston Life, he demonstrated a fresh salmon carpaccio, sharing simple tips for preparing quality ingredients at home.
