February is National Cat Health Month, and we are celebrating in the most Houston way possible with a local celebrity who has confidence, couture, and a whole lot of personality. Meet Mersha the Mini Panther, a stylish black cat with more than 170,000 Instagram followers and a growing reputation for fashion and feline wellness.
Mersha and his owners, Stef and Adam Eaton, joined us on Houston Life to talk about proactive cat care and why paying attention to small changes can make a big difference. While Mersha may be best known for his iconic outfits and viral videos, his humans make sure his health comes first.
Cats are famously good at hiding discomfort, which can make it difficult for owners to know when something is wrong. Watching daily habits like eating, drinking, playfulness, litter box behavior, and subtle shifts can often be the first sign that something needs attention.
Check out these additional wellness tips for cat owners:
For the Eatons, one of the most helpful tools in staying ahead of potential issues has been the litter they use. It’s called PrettyLitter, a color-changing cat litter that could find problems before they get worse or save them a trip to the ER.
When Mersha started acting just a little off, Stef says she took a closer look at his litter box and noticed the crystals had turned blue. Sure enough, the vet confirmed the early stages of a Urinary Tract Infection. Houston Life viewers can get a discount on their PrettyLitter by using the code ‘MERSHA20′.
While a large portion of local households have cats, shelters across the city continue to need support. Stef encourages residents to consider fostering, donating supplies, or even adding an extra bag of litter to their shopping cart for a local shelter. Small actions can have a big impact.
As for Mersha, his dad also hopes to use his platform to break stereotypes about black cats and show just how affectionate, playful, and lucky they can be.
