One of the most critical concerns during a freeze is protecting outdoor faucets and pipes from freezing and bursting.

There are many ways to protect your pipes, so take a moment and read this article from KPRC 2 reporter Joy Addison, if you can’t find faucet covers that will be delivered in time. Pipe and faucet covers can be hard to come by within hours of a cold front, so consider buying now for use in the future.

Another option is the Freeze Miser outdoor faucet freeze protectors which were recently featured on Houston Life.

Battery-powered lanterns are another essential item to have for power outages or low light conditions. (These are great for children! They make power outages less scary and more fun, plus they eliminate the potential fire risk of candles placed around a room.)

Pair these lanterns with plenty of batteries to ensure you have a hands-free way to light up any room during an outage.

To keep your devices charged during outages, portable power banks come in many sizes and prices. This one from Anker is pricier than other options, but is advertised to keep your phones and computers running with multiple USB-C ports and retractable cables.

For those venturing outside, an ice scraper is a handy tool to clear windshields and car windows safely. You won’t need it often in Houston, but when you do, you’ll be glad to have it stashed away in your car.

Hand warmers and heated blankets provide extra warmth indoors or on the go. There are several options available, including heated blankets for home use and car blankets designed for travel comfort.

Keeping feet warm is just as important, and wool socks are a cozy choice. They come in various colors and styles to suit your style while providing insulation against the cold.

For outdoor activities or running errands in the cold, touchscreen-compatible winter gloves with silicone grippers, keep your hands warm without sacrificing functionality.

And, want to make sure your little ones are even more adorable in their winter gear? Pick a winter cap with pom poms and when it’s safe to step outside, snap a ton of cute pictures and share them with us on Click2Pins.

A reminder, whether it’s a freeze or a hurricane, having a manual can opener on hand is always a good idea so you can easily get into any canned goods you have in the pantry.

Finally, don’t forget to stock up on comforting beverages like hot cocoa to enjoy warm moments indoors during the freeze.

Remember, we’ll be back to sipping cold iced tea and wishing for cooler days soon!
