Belle comes to Houston - Kyra Belle Johnson stars in Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ now at the Hobby Center

HOUSTON – A beloved tale returns - bigger and brighter Disney’s Beauty and the Beast returned to Houston this week as part of Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center, kicking off a limited North American tour that marks Disney’s first tour of the show in more than 25 years. Based on the Oscar-winning 1991 animated film, the stage version features the Tony- and Oscar-nominated score including “Be Our Guest” and the classic title ballad.

Meet the new Belle

Leading the production is Kyra Belle Johnson, the Los Angeles native and Texas State University musical-theatre grad whose name seems made for the role. Johnson brings both experience and warmth to Belle - she first led a national tour at age 18 as Sophie in Mamma Mia! and has TV credits including Damned If You Do, Role Play and FBI.

On Houston Life she talked about stepping into an iconic Disney role and what makes this production special.

Back to Texas - and center stage at the Hobby Center

For Johnson, returning to Texas has a special resonance: she’s a proud Texas State alumna and is excited to perform in-state.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the animated classic or seeing it on stage for the first time, this production promises spectacular sets, dazzling costumes and the songs that made audiences fall in love with Beauty and the Beast.
