Brace yourself, the 1993 Oilers vs. Bills game is featured in new docuseries ‘Don’t Call it a Comeback’

Is it still too soon to revisit?

Houston – For Houston sports fans, some losses never fully fade. Decades later, they still live in family stories, slammed doors, and memories of where you were when it all went wrong. A new Vice TV docuseries is reopening one of those chapters with Don’t Call It a Comeback, an eight-episode look at the greatest come-from-behind victories in sports history, including one that still hits close to home in Houston.

The series premieres with a deep dive into the 1993 AFC Wild Card game between the Houston Oilers and the Buffalo Bills, widely considered the greatest comeback in NFL playoff history. The Oilers built a commanding 35-3 lead, only to watch the Bills rally for a stunning 41-38 overtime win. Vice Media President of Global TV Peter Gaffney admits it is a tough place to start for Houston viewers, but says the game was impossible to ignore when telling the story of legendary comebacks even describing the game as Shakespearean.

While the opening episode centers on Houston’s painful playoff memory, the series spans multiple sports and eras. Other episodes revisit the Monday Night Miracle between the Jets and Dolphins, the Candlestick Comeback featuring the 49ers and Giants, the Red Sox rally in the 2007 American League Championship Series, and Duke’s dramatic comeback in the 2001 NCAA Final Four, among others.

Don’t Call It a Comeback airs on Vice TV weekly through Feb. 24.
