Enroll Now: Key deadlines and tips for 2026 Marketplace coverage

HOUSTON – Open Enrollment for individual and family Marketplace plans is now open. From Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, Texans can review plan options for 2026 coverage and choose the health insurance that fits their needs and budget.

Jessie Quick, DSVP Marketing for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, explains what’s new for 2026 and what to consider when comparing coverage on Houston Life.

Key dates and coverage start times

Open Enrollment runs Nov. 1–Jan. 15. Important deadlines: enroll by Jan. 15, 2026, for coverage beginning Feb. 1, 2026. If you wait past Jan. 15 you may have to wait for a special enrollment period or qualify for other exemptions.

Why a plan matters — even if you’re healthy

Marketplace coverage provides access to preventive care, checkups, screenings and immunizations - services that catch problems early and keep costs down. Going without coverage can mean substantial medical bills and limited access to care. As mentioned during the interview, plan networks, drug lists, premiums and deductibles can change year to year, so reviewing options annually is critical.

How to compare plans and enroll with confidence

Make a list of your preferred doctors, clinics and current prescriptions before you shop. Compare total costs - not just premiums - by factoring in deductibles, co-pays and drug coverage. Consider provider networks and whether your current physicians participate. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas offers tools and advisors to help compare plans and enroll.
